They are not meant to. MGS exists to try and tell one...but it never ends and keeps getting more ridiculous. The series Jumped the shark long ago.

They are not meant to. MGS exists to try and tell one...but it never ends and keeps getting more ridiculous. The series Jumped the shark long ago.

 

Kinda have to agree. When it sticks to trying to be real world 'authentic' and putting the player in realistic situations then it's awesome. But all that work goes to crap when they start bringing in the crazy stuff. I think the first MGS did it best.

Just because a story is weird, and admittedly pretty dumb doesn't meant that I want someone to tell me what's going to happen.

That's why the Galaxy games had story, and also Super Mario Sunshine. Plus Luigi's Mansion 2 continues the King Boo story from the first game. Don't say they "aren't" meant to when there's story in Mario games.

Gameplay is the primary focus of Mario. Mario has a motive giver for the player to reach the end beat bowser as what bad thing he did this time.MGS every game primary focus is continuing the story with little game play in between very long cut scenes.The very fact you are trying compare Mario to MGS in design is ludicrous.

 

Mario games are simple A to B and the whole "continuing the story from.." BS. It's still just A-B motive giver for the gameplay. MGS series has become  A to C to Z then to B then back to A then somehow to G and oh here is some gameplay sprinkled in. MGS is not selling it's gameplay it's selling it's convoluted story and characters.

 

If anyone plays Mario for story then people watch porn for story.

Are you one of those people who think a story is only about the text in front of you?
Not about the feels you get when you interact with that story yourself?
